1. Add-a-Number Mind Reading Trick Revealed
This is one of the most common easy mind reading tricks to learn and is also one of the best ones to help practice your performance and build your confidence. The key to mind reading and cold reading is in the charisma of the person doing the mind reading tricks, the more you believe it, the others will fall in line with you. For this reason it's a great idea to start with something simple and work your way up and that's where the Grey Elephant comes into play. Here's what you need to do:
- Tell the audience member to pick a number between 1 and 10.
- When they've locked this number in they need to multiply it by 2.
- Add 8 to this number.
- Divide the entire answer by 2.
- Subtract the original number from the answer to the maths above.
- Convert the answer into a letter of the alphabet using the concept of A=1, B=2, C=3 etc.
- The audience member must then think of a country beginning with that letter of the alphabet.
- Skip to the next letter and they have to think of an animal starting with that letter.
- Finally you need to instruct them to think of the colour of that animal.
Now probability states that the results will be a grey elephant from Denmark. As a mentalist you will very quickly learn that probability is your friend and to trust in it at all times. The maths used in the trick will always lead back to the number 4 which leaves D and E to be used for the country and animal which will more often than not trigger Denmark and Elephant in people's heads. Elephants are grey so the color will be grey and the result will make you look like an impressive mind reader. This is just one of many mind reading tricks revealed.

- Ask them to answer the following questions:
– What Day is Christmas?
– What number is between 1 and 3?
– What are hamburgers made of?
– What side of the road do they drive on in Europe? - Then ask them to think of the name of a color and a tool and to say the answer out loud very quickly.
- When they have said their answer they can then remove the paper from their pocket and read it out loud.

It sounds simple doesn't it? Well, that's because it genuinely is as simple as that! The skill comes in when you find out that the stack of 6 cards is swapped with another set of 5 cards. This means that all of the 6 cards that were in the first deck won't be in the second set, however you are believing in the viewer to have concentrated only on their card meaning the fact that all 6 have changed hasn't crossed their mind. To make this even more effective as well as making it look even more like you have read the audience member's mind, tell them to hold the card in their head because this reaffirms the idea that you are, indeed, reading their thoughts.

- In front of the subject make the 3 piles from the top of the deck without showing them what is on the cards.
- Get a piece of paper and tell the viewer you will read their mind to find which pile they will go for, telling them to concentrate on the pile is a great idea.
- Tell them to point to which pile they have chosen and when they point, reveal that you have written the number 3.
This trick is simple because you literally cannot pick the wrong pile! If they go for pile number 1 it has 3 cards, the second pile contains all the number 3s and the last pile is ‘Pile 3'. Whichever they pick, 3 is the correct answer.

- With a group of people (including your assistant) tell them you will step outside of the room for 30 seconds.
- During this 30 seconds the group must agree upon an object that will be their ‘chosen object'.
- When you return your assistant will point to a number of objects in succession.
- You will pick out the ‘chosen object', when they have finished pointing.
So long as you've got an assistant that you trust then it really is as simple as these tricks get. You will arrange with your assistant beforehand that they will point to a black object before the chosen object meaning you will just need to keep an eye out for the colour of each object. Even if the chosen object is black it will still be pointed to after a black object so it is easy to understand which object has been chosen.
